Thurrock Young Carers

About Thurrock Young carers

Thurrock Young Carers is a local charity dedicated to supporting young people aged 8–18 who provide unpaid care for a family member living with a long-term illness, disability, mental health condition, or drug and alcohol dependency.

Many Young Carers take on significant responsibilities at home, often helping to care for a parent, sibling, grandparent, or other loved one while balancing school, friendships, and their own wellbeing. These responsibilities can impact their education, social opportunities, and emotional health.

The charity works to ensure that no Young Carer feels alone. Through specialist support, advice, mentoring, respite activities, and opportunities to connect with others facing similar challenges, Thurrock Young Carers helps young people build confidence, improve resilience, and enjoy the childhood experiences they deserve.

By supporting Thurrock Young Carers, we can help create brighter futures for local young people, ensuring they receive the recognition, support, and opportunities they need to thrive.

Lakeside’s Chosen Charity

As Lakeside Shopping Centre’s Charity Partner of the Year, Thurrock Young Carers is delighted to work alongside Lakeside to raise awareness of the vital role young carers play within their families and communities.

The partnership began with Lakeside inviting members of the public to nominate local charities that make a difference in the community. Following an initial shortlist, a second round of selection helped identify Thurrock Young Carers as the chosen Charity Partner of the Year, recognising the charity’s outstanding work supporting young people across Thurrock.

Through fundraising, community engagement, and partnership working, Lakeside and Thurrock Young Carers aim to create brighter futures for local young carers. Every donation and show of support helps the charity continue providing essential services, activities, counselling, and opportunities that enable young carers to enjoy their childhood, achieve their goals, and access the support they need. Together, we can ensure that young carers feel recognised, valued, and know they are never alone.

Every Donation Makes a Difference
